With all the different types of files you work with everyday; it takes quite a bit of time keeping your computer organized. A free downloadable application called DropIt can eliminate a lot of the tedious work of searching and manually opening folders and moving files around.

DropIt is a “drag and drop” file manager that allows you to quickly sort files into designated folders. Based on user defined rules; you can configure DropIt to move, copy or compress your files and folders to specified destinations, based on file-names and/or file-types. For example, you can set it to move all images (.jpeg, .jpg, .ping, .gif, etc.) to your My Pictures folder, or extract all Zip files automatically onto your Desktop. You can even save sets of parameters in multiple Profiles for different purposes.

To sort a file, you’d simply drag & drop it onto the DropIt icon and it will be automatically moved or copied according to your rules. Drop a whole group of assorted files and/or folders on the DropIt icon and it sorts them all and sends them off to the folders you assigned.

Other features include support for encrypted archives, support for multiple profiles (multiple drop targets with custom rules), command line parameters, and more. This is great, easy to use tool for helping you stay organized.
